FAQs
-
We recommend full gear so that you may skate comfortably and safely.
At minimum, we require hockey skates, a helmet with a cage, and a hockey stick.
We highly recommend elbow pads and hockey pants (aka breezers). You can also wear full hockey gear which includes shin guards, chest pads, and gloves.
Check out this guide to learn what all of this gear is!
-
The Queens have a limited supply of loaner gear available and can work with folks who need gear. If you need loaner gear, please include that information when you register and arrive 1 hour early on the first day of Hockey 101. There is a one-time fee of $100 to borrow gear from the Queens, and it will be refunded when the gear is returned.
If you’re looking for new or used gear, check out Red Line Sports in Kenai, Ak Sk8 Shop in Soldotna, Facebook Marketplace, Play It Again Sports in Anchorage, and local garage sales (including ours!) and gear swaps.
Please note you will need your own hockey skates. The Queens do not have any skates to loan and there are no long-term skate rentals in the Kenai-Soldotna area.

Grab your popcorn, here are some short videos on hockey basics:
Learn about icing from Snoop Dogg.
Snoop Dogg explaining offsides. We play using delayed offsides, which he explains at 1:29.
A slightly longer (5 ½ minutes) video that explains zones (defensive, offensive, and neutral) as well as icing and offsides.
More from Snoop Dogg: penalties and line changes.
Here’s a video to show the basic positioning when the puck is in the offensive zone and another to show the basic positioning when the puck is in the defensive zone.
